Utility and Power Line Controversy
In 1991, Intermountian Rural Electric Association (IREA) sought approvals to build a new, 23 mile power line crossing 145 private properties through Teller and Park counties. The issue pitted neighbor against neighbor. Many do not trust their utility (IREA) due to 1980 history. Many residents worry their high mountain veiws and property values will be damaaged. Some fear their health may be at risk from high voltage lines too close to their homes.
Celinda Kaelin of Florissant and others formed Citizens Against IREA (CARE).
This letter to the editor is concerned that lawsuits were being used to discourage CARE members.
